Some say Facebook and Social Media is just a passing fad? The statistics show otherwise, gathered from ‘Socialnomics’ by Erik Qualman. The fastest growing segment on Facebook is females aged 55-65. There are 60 million status updates happening on Facebook daily. In truth, we no longer search for the news; the news finds us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the other Social Media sites. Soon we will no longer search for products and services; they will find us via Social Media. Already today Facebook tops Google for weekly traffic in the United States and 50% of the mobile Internet traffic in the United Kingdom is for Facebook.
What does this mean? Facebook isn’t a fad; it’s a fundamental shift in the way we communicate. Social Media is transforming the way we live and do business. We can avoid it or embrace it. However we must be sensible in how we use it, who we friend and what we post. Remember, ‘What happens in Vegas stays on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube……’

So… what is this Facebook buzz about? It seems everyone is talking about it and asking if you have a Facebook page. Well it appears that Facebook is not just a fad; there are now over 300 million people on Facebook! From teens to grandparents so many are caught up in the Facebook craze! And everywhere you turn there seems to be a class being taught!
So, is it only for social networking or can you promote your business on Facebook too? There are different thoughts on this but I believe the main thing is to have fun! The focus should be to listen, engage and be interested in what others are posting. The goal is to build relationships but to do that honestly you need to be real! As you build credibility you will begin to attract new friends, both personal and business.
On the personal side, interact with your network by posting a question or a thought that can get a fun conversation going, post quotes, share videos, pictures and links that you find enjoyable. On the business side, provide valuable content about your industry, don’t sell to your friends but engage them in conversation, set yourself up as an expert sharing information, videos and links, don’t be afraid to give things away!
Are you on Facebook? And what are you doing that is attracting others to you?
