I’m often asked what the secret is to attracting customers to ones social network sites. Sorry to say there is no ‘secret formula’ but there is a Success Formula that if put into play, will perform. The first thing to know is that before you dive into Social Media place some thought into what your PURPOSE is. Why do you want to set up sites on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn? How do you want to use YouTube and Blogs for your business? Do you want to build relationships, talk about key services, expand your reach or perhaps build brand loyalty? Use caution, as your actions may either build up your brand or weaken it! Without determining your actual PURPOSE, there is no need to go any further.
Once you have determined your PURPOSE you then begin developing your PLAN, without established objectives in mind how will you know if you’ve achieved success? When strategizing, chart how you are going to approach the Internet by exploring what others are doing. Decide what social platforms to use by finding out where your audience is hanging out; this is why it is vital you know who your client is! Choose what tools you are going to use to measure your Social Media campaigns. Having a PLAN of action in place to measure your successes and catching your errors will help you to meet your goals.
You have your PURPOSE and your PLAN, now what? The first two steps are absolutely necessary ingredients in the formula but without this third step the PLAN will not work, it’s all about the execution of the POST. You must determine who you are talking to, what you will communicate, how you will say it, how much time you’ll allocate to each social network, establish if it is about you or them (I wisely recommend you realize it’s all about them), and then begin engagement. Creating relevant, interesting and engaging content that is keyword rich will bring you online visibility and generate profitability. The POST is the secret in the Success Formula.

Wow, where does the time go? This is a most often asked question when we near the end of a year and we realize we haven’t accomplished all the things on our ‘to do’ list and we haven’t achieved all our goals we had set in place in January when the year appeared so fresh and inviting. We begin to get nervous as we ponder if it is too late to get the results we had anticipated when we first put our marketing plan together. Well the bad news may be that time flies, but the good news is…you are the pilot!
This morning I woke up to Brian Tracy’s quote for the day which read, “Small differences in your performance can lead to large differences in your results.” How exciting! And encouraging!
What small differences can you do today to increase your marketing efforts and get better results? Why not take advantage of Social Media Marketing!
The top 3 facets of Social Media Marketing (SMM) are: Buzz, Promotion, and Conversation.
- The buzz SMM creates is the piece that really makes it work. The sharing of your events, YouTube videos, tweets, blogs and Facebook posts attract attention and become viral in nature. SMM allows you to spread your marketing message and expand your web presence.
- In SMM you can promote your business by building a fan page in Facebook (FB) and setting your FB posts to also post on your Twitter page. Your tweets can be set up to post on your blog and on your blog you can provide links to your FB fan page, LinkedIn page, Twitter page and website. With ping.fm you can set it up to have your posts go out to all your social networking pages. SMM is an awesome promotional venue!
- When operating an effective SMM campaign you must elicit conversation, allowing for user participation and dialogue. You must fully engage and respect the users in order for your campaign to be successful.
Taking the time to implement these 3 facets of Social Media Marketing are the small differences that can lead to the large differences in your marketing results before the end of the year!
Make the time to take action and you will achieve success!
